How do they work?

Check out the Technical Stuff Section for more information on the operating principles. there are also some further links there for the technically minded.

Is this a new thing?

No, Solapure has been sold in New Zealand for over 10 years now. We have hundreds of satisfied clients using this technology to save themselves time, and money, and keep their pool clean and clear. Solapure is distributed here by a New Zealand company (Prosol Limited) that has been going for more that 25 years. We are based in sunny Tauranga and ship the units and spares from there.

What warranty comes with the unit?

We offer a 3 year warranty on the Solapure unit, and don't forget our risk free 90 day trial.

When it arrives, what do we do with it?

Once you have opened the box, you will need to wind the copper coil to the screw on the base of the unit, then using one of the plastic wingnuts, screw the cage to the bottom of the coil (this catches the used product that comes off the Copper core). Then you just place the Solapure in your pool. It is better if it can float around the pool, but if you want to tether it (tie a piece of string to the spring and the other end to a rock), then make sure it sits near a pump nozzle to assist the distribution of the Copper ions around the pool.

You will need to keep up your normal pool dosing regimen for about 4 to 6 weeks after introducing the Solapure to your pool, this gives a chance for the concentration of copper to build up. A pot of test strips are provided to test for this.

Do we take it out of the pool when people are swimming?

You don't have to - just remember it is not a pool toy. If you take it out of the pool then make sure it is put face down so the solar panels are not exposed to the sun, otherwise the unit may overheat and stop working.

Why do we need to continue adding Chlorine once the Solapure is established?

The Copper ions are very good at breaking down algae and microbes, but potentially larger matter floating around in the pool need a low level of Chlorine to be neutralised. Some of our clients have use a floating spa pool dispenser filled with the chlorine tablets to regulate this, or they put a couple of Chlorine tablets in their pool skimmer basket - so easy.

How do I know its working?.

If you have any concerns your Solapure is not working there is a very easy test you can do to check it. Click here to watch a short video.

I have a Solapure in my pool and just got my water tested, my pool guy is telling me I need to add all sorts

Don't panic, you don't need to, because you are no longer having to add ph balancers, softeners/hardeners and chlorine, your pool water will be clear of all these chemicals, if they are not testing for Copper Ions as well then they won't see these.

Does it have batteries in it?

No, the unit only works when sunlight is on the panel. As the Copper ions that are released are long lasting, the Solapure does not need to be operating continuously to protect your pool

My Pool Guy tells me these Copper Ionisers don't work?

We can assure you they do work. Unfortunately for your pool guy he doesn't get to sell you bagfuls of expensive and toxic chemicals anymore.

What's the difference between the Solapure and other Pool Ionisers on the market?

Nothing tangible, different brands, different manufacturers, same operating principle.

Can I leave it in the pool in Winter?

Well that's up to you, if you have a pool cover you will need to cut a hole in it, or turn back a corner so the solar panel can be exposed to sunlight, and you will need to run your pump every day to circulate the water (you should do this anyway to keep the pump primed and filter fresh).

What's the largest pool you can use the Solapure in?

Up to 60,000L, any larger than this we would recommend two Solapures.

Can I use it in my Spa Pool?

Theoretically yes, however if you cover your Spa, the solar panel will need to be exposed somehow.

Will the Copper damage my clothes?

No, the actual concentration in the pool is not high enough for this.

Is there anything I shouldn't add to my pool when using the Solapure?

Don't add any clarifiers or metal removers to the pool, this will effectively nullify the operation of the Copper Ions, Also the Solapure cannot be used in conjunction with Baquacil or Soft Swim products, or any other products that contain biguanide, Make sure the pool water is free of these products before putting the Solapure in the water.

Can we use it in a temporary pool?

Yes but same rules apply, it will take about 4 to 6 weeks to get the Copper Ions up to concentration so you will need to dose with chemicals before that if you intend to swim in it.

What about my fishpond?.

The evidence is mixed on this one, some sites say no, some say its OK. All I can advise is that I have had one in my small (less than 1500L) fishpond for the last few years and my goldfish/water lilies do not seem affected at all. They even had babies and none of them had 3 eyes).

What are the dimensions of the Solapure?

The diameter of the top is 210mm and it is approx 130mm to the base of the cage.
